Fall Home Décor Tips

Many homeowners do not consider making home décor changes when the chill of fall is in the air. However, adding some cozy touches will make your home a welcome retreat for family and friends when colder winds are blowing! Add a touch of autumn savvy design details in every room of the house and it will be easier to make it through the approaching winter.

Cozy Up with Fall Accessories

Adding some simple accessories to your home will help welcome in the fall. Some appealing touches can include cozier fabrics on your couch cushions such as faux mink, woodsy plaids, warm flannel and cozy wool fabrics. Slip covers are an affordable solution that can be be removed with the return of spring.

Choose warmer colors that can carry through the fall theme with blankets thrown over the arms of chairs and sofas and large floor pillows piled beside the fireplace. You can also add a rustic basket or wooden trunk filled with sweaters and slippers for guests.

And don't forget the backyard! Having warm fall blankets in storage benches, as well as outdoor cushions in fall patterns and colors adds the perfect touches when people gather for fall bonfires and barbecues.

Focus on the Fireplace

Add some interesting touches to your fireplace such as fire screens, hearth updates and fireplace tools to add a feeling of hominess to your roaring fire. Draw attention to this heartwarming focal point with artwork that can be hung over the mantle with rich colors in landscapes of fall or winter scenes. Place hurricane lamps or large candle holders on the mantle to add flickering light to the room on cold fall nights. Make sure your furniture is configured properly so people can gather around the fire and consider adding additional seating such as oversized upholstered ottomans or benches.

Warm Up with Linens

Chilly nights call for rich, flannel sheets and deep, thick duvets while fall mornings need thicker bath towels to wrap yourself up when stepping out of the shower. Take a trip to your favorite home store and stock up on these items so family will feel snuggly warm on those colder days and night!

Create a Warm Welcome

Your front door is another perfect place to embrace the fall. Add some urns by the door sporting fall flowers such as asters or add a fall wreath to your door as a start for your Thanksgiving décor.

Inside the door use practical solutions that will help deal with the less than perfect weather. Add an area rug that can help with the mess of boots, umbrellas and other wet items. A low budget area rug in a material that can handle the wet while adding a pretty pattern will work well through the colder months. Think of solutions such as a bench with storage below to store all the extra layers of clothing. If space is limited add some attractive hooks or consider hanging some shelving nooks for storage.
